What is Screed?

Screed is the layer beneath your floor covering that is applied onto a load-bearing substrate. In combination with insulation, screed provides thermal and impact sound insulation – enhancing comfort, coziness, and room acoustics. In general, a distinction is made between flowing and wet screeds as well as dry screed.

Dry Screed or Wet Screed – Which One Suits You?

When choosing screed, the question arises: dry or wet screed?

Wet and flowing screeds are mixed on-site from factory-dried mortar and applied in a wet or flowing consistency.
Dry screed is delivered as gypsum fiber boards and, in combination with a dry levelling compound, compensates for unevenness – without any waiting time for drying.

Installing Dry Screed – Explained in 6 Steps

Would you like to install your dry screed yourself? With the right preparation and a bit of DIY skill, the installation can be fast and reliable. Here’s a compact guide:

  1. Install edge insulation strips: Attach the edge insulation strips to all components in contact with the floor. This prevents sound bridges and accommodates expansion.
  2. Apply adhesive to the elements: Apply adhesive to the groove of the click system. The surfaces must be dry, dust- and grease-free, and free from defects.
  3. Lay the elements: Position the boards at an angle and gently press them against the already laid board. Ensure the longitudinal joints are closed.
  4. Join the boards: Securely connect the boards at the ends using a tapping block and hammer.
  5. Install perimeter boards: Insert the perimeter boards with a pulling iron and remove any wedges if necessary.
  6. Apply floor covering: The screed is ready for your floor covering – exactly as you wish.
